The Tiffen 6.6 x 6.6 inch Smoque 1/4 Filter can be applied to simulate the presence of smoke within a frame or scene. It can be used to replace typical theatrical smoke generators such as smoke crackers, chips, pellets, grenades, or aerosols. This filter can also be used to supplement the use of such smoke generators to help provide a consistent appearance of smoke, especially if wind or other conditions prevent physical smoke from settling or remaining within a frame or scene. The use of physical smoke is associated with the release of solid particles into the air. By reducing or eliminating the release of those particles, a more predictable and comfortable photo or film set can be maintained. This filter has a grade of 1/4. Grades of 1/8, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, and 4 are also available where the effect of this type of filter becomes approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number. The Tiffen 4 x 5.65-inch filter is constructed of optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm thick, 4 x 5.65-inch rectangular files. It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000 of an inch.
